Hello Parents,
This week we will be beginning a more regular schedule for our class. Our assessments will usually take place on Fridays. This Friday we will have our Chapter 2 Religion assessment. I will have the students write about our Saint of the week, St. John the Baptist, for extra credit on their religion assessment. We will also have a spelling test, a vocabulary test, phonics test, comprehension test, social studies test, and an English test on common and proper nouns. You will find an attachment for our spelling words and our vocabulary words. You will also find the spelling words in your child’s planner. Every Friday the students will turn in their spelling homework and write their new spelling words in their planner. They will then have until Friday of the next week to do their spelling homework and turn it in. I will be sending out Star reading, and math results next week, along with a letter explaining the Accelerated Reader program and what is expected of your child. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Boling

Hello Parents,

We had a great time last week getting to know each other and our new school routines.  This week we will be reviewing Math and Reading concepts from first grade.  We will start our new Math unit on Thursday which is addition and subtraction within 20.  Students will have homework Monday through Thursday and it will always be due the following day.  Please take a look at your child’s planner everyday and make sure to sign it.  On Friday your child will receive their spelling word list for the following week.  The spelling homework will be due the following Friday, your child should have a spelling menu in their binder for the homework.  We will have two tests this Friday, Religion chapter 1 and Vocabulary Unit 1.  I will review with  the students on Thursday and they will have a vocabulary flip book to help with studying.  As always, if you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Have a blessed week!

Mrs. Boling

Hello Parents and Students,

Lunch – 11:00 – 11:25

*Please have your students in their PE uniform on PE days (Monday and Tuesday).

Playing telephone tag can be frustrating, so I want you to know that if you ever need me to call you, my first try will always be during one of our enrichment times listed above.  Make sure you give me the telephone number to call during those times.  If I cannot reach you during enrichment, I will try again after school.  If that does not work, I will leave a message to let you know when I will try again.

Snack:

We will be having a working snack in the morning.  Please send your child with a snack that they can eat while writing (nothing that involves a utensil).  Also please send a labeled water bottle with your child each day. We will not have use of the water fountains, but we will have water bottle filling stations.

Homework:

Typical homework would consist of a page or two of Language Arts (ex: read/respond or skills) and a page or two of Math which reinforces skills learned in school that day.

Homework will be sent home in the white binder, Monday through Thursday.  Reading and Math are always due the following day.  Spelling choice boards will be due on the last day of the week.  If your child turns in his or her homework late, or if there is another concern (sloppiness, incomplete), a note will be written on the assignment to let you know.

Homework Binder:  The white homework binder will be going home with your child every day.  Inside this binder will be their homework, planner, and any information the school sends home.  Every Friday your child will bring home their work for the week along with any graded papers.

Planner:  The planner will be located inside your child’s homework binder.  At the end of each day, the students will write their homework and their amount of Boling bucks earned each day.  I will also send home any important information in the homework binder. I will need you to sign at the bottom of each day of the planner so that I know you have seen your child’s work.  This includes signing it on Friday and returning it on Monday.

Behavior:

I use a positive reinforcement system called Boling Bucks.  Every time that your child displays positive behavior by following the rules of the classroom or displays their Christian faith, they will receive a Boling Buck.  These Boling Bucks can be spent at the end of the week, or the student can save them for a bigger prize.  Your child will bring home a planner every day that will have the amount of Boling Bucks they received for that day.  The Boling Bucks will never be taken from your child.  These are the rules:

  1. Be respectful.
  2. Be prepared.
  3. Raise your hand.
  4. Follow directions right away.
  5. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.

Consequences:  If students should break a rule, they will be reminded of the rules of the classroom.  If they continue to break that rule, the students will owe me part of their recess time.  The students can display better behavior and earn back their recess time.  Students physically hurting one another will not be tolerated.  If this happens, I will send a note home with your student in their planner or contact you directly.

Birthdays:

As of right now we are not doing birthday celebrations due to our safety policies in relation to COVID-19.  If there are any changes to this policy, I will let you know through my teacher page online.

Newsletters:

Our class newsletter will be posted on the website each Monday.  In it you will find any updates on events that are to come, as well as the skills we are working on that week.
